What is 6x2 Timber in mm?

6x2 in inches is equivalent to 47x150mm in metric measurements. However, the precise dimensions of our 6x2 Timber in mm are actually slightly smaller as they are regularised. This process involves machining the length to ensure uniform width and thickness throughout.

As a result, the "finished" size may be slightly smaller, typically closer to 45mm x 145mm rather than the 47x150mm. This minor variance is generally inconsequential in most projects and is fairly standard when utilising 6x2 regularised timber joists.

What are 6x2 Treated Timber Joists Used For?

6x2 timber joists with C24 strength grading,  are perfect for da variety of applications such as roofing, flooring, house framing, and deck framing. Treated to resist moisture and pests, 6x2 Treated Timber Joists are well-suited for use in both indoor and outdoor projects.

What is Regularised Timber?

Regularised timber undergoes mechanical finishing to achieve uniform and consistent dimensions throughout its entire length. This method ensures a smooth and even finish, resulting in a final size that is slightly smaller by a few mm. Widely employed in structural components like joists, studs, and framing materials, regularised timber guarantees consistency, simplifying assembly processes and ensuring precise fittings.

What Does Kiln Dried Mean?

Kiln-dried wood undergoes a meticulous process where it's placed inside a kiln to reduce its moisture content to a precise level. Controlled heat and airflow within the kiln accelerate and standardise the drying process, effectively reducing issues such as warping, cracking, and fungal growth in the wood.

What Lengths Do 6x2 C24 Timber Joists Come in?

Our 6x2 Timber joists are available in 2.4m, 3m, 3.6m and 4.8m. We try to keep all of these lengths in stock wherever possible, but on occasions where stock levels or availability in your area is low, we may substitute for a longer length.

What Is C24 Timber?

C24 timber is one of two widely used in the UK. The "C" signifies the wood type (coniferous), while the number indicates its bend strength, with C24 having a higher strength than C16.

Notable for its strength and capacity to support substantial loads, C24 timber stands out for demanding structural applications. It is commonly chosen in construction projects requiring robust timber, particularly for larger spans, heavy loads, or where superior structural resilience is essential. C24 timber is a popular choice for critical elements like roof trusses, beams, and other vital structural components, prioritising heightened strength and durability.
