What is OSB Board?

OSB, short for “Oriented Strand Board”, is a type of engineered wood board created using small strands of wood that are compacted together with an adhesive to create a sturdy and moisture-resistant board ideal for use in flooring and sheds. It has a similar appearance to chipboard, however if you look closely you will notice that typically the strands of wood are longer - this, compared with a more strategic placement of the strands, forms a stronger and sturdier board. It is usually available in a standard size of 1200mm x 2400mm or 1200 x 2440mm.

What to use OSB For?

OSB if often used in the boarding of lofts to allow installation of loft insulation below it, between the roof joists, and a stable surface to walk on a use for storage. As it has some water resistance, it is ideal for use in sheds to create work benches or partitions, and also has a modern finish that looks great in shop fittings and studios, as well as for wall sheathing in timber homes, and floor underlay in construction projects.
