Frequently Asked Questions

Structural vs shuttering plywood

Though they look similar, there are some key differences between structural and shuttering plywood that may be important to you depending on your intended project. Structural plywood is designed for permanent load-bearing applications - commonly used in flooring, roofing, and wall sheathing. Shuttering plywood on the other hand, is designed mostly for temporary use - such as in concrete form-work. It provides a smooth surface for concrete molds and is typically treated with a release agent to prevent sticking. Shuttering plywood must withstand the pressure of wet concrete but does not need the long-term durability of structural plywood, as it is removed after the concrete sets.

What is shuttering plywood?

Also sometimes known as formwork plywood, shuttering ply’s main use is for creating formwork for pouring and shaping concrete. This is a popular method in forming shed bases or laying foundations for buildings and walls, though it expands out into a wide range of concrete structures and forms. Our shuttering plywood is sold in 9mm, 12mm and 18mm thicknesses.

What is shuttering plywood?

Shuttering plywood, also known as formwork plywood, is primarily used in the construction industry for creating moulds into which concrete is poured. It is commonly used in the creation of concrete shed bases and building foundations, as well as numerous other formwork projects. It is typically a durable and less absorbent material designed to retain the integrity of the mould.
