What is 6x2 Timber in mm?

When translated from inches to millimetres, "6x2" equates to 47x150mm. However, after the regularisation process the specific dimensions in mm are slightly smaller. This process involves machining to ensure uniform width and thickness throughout the length.

As a result, the "finished" size typically measures closer to 45mm x 145mm rather than the initial 47x150mm specifications. This minor variance is usually inconsequential in most projects and is typical when using 6x2 regularised timber joists.

What are 6x2 Treated Timber Joists Used For?

The 6x2, C24 treated timber joists are exceptionally versatile and well-suited for numerous applications, such as roofing, flooring, house framing, and deck framing, owing to their notably robust bend strength. Treated to withstand moisture and pests, they prove to be an ideal choice for both indoor and outdoor projects, providing versatility and durability across a wide array of applications.

What is Regularised Timber?

Regularised timber undergoes mechanical finishing to achieve consistent and uniform dimensions along its entire length. This meticulous process guarantees a smooth and even finish, resulting in a finished size slightly smaller than the named size, by a few millimetres. Widely applied in structural elements like joists, studs, and framing materials, regularised timber guarantees uniformity, simplifying assembly processes and ensuring precise fittings.

What Does Kiln Dried Mean?

Kiln-drying is a process in which  timber is placed inside a kiln and exposed to controlled heat and airflow within the kiln to lower its moisture content to a specific level. This expedites and standardises the drying process, effectively minimising problems like warping, cracking, and fungal growth in the wood.

What Lengths Do 6x2 C24 Timber Joists Come in?

Our 6x2 Timber joists come in lengths of 2.4m, 3m, 3.6m and 4.8m. We aim to maintain stock for all these lengths, yet in cases of limited availability or lower stock levels in your area, we might substitute with longer lengths as necessary.

What Is C24 Timber?

C24 timber is a prevalent grade of timber in the UK, the "C" stands for Coniferous, and the number signifies its bend strength, with C24 being stronger than C16.

Known for its strength and capacity to support substantial loads, C24 timber is commonly used in demanding structural applications. Suitable for projects that require robust timber, especially for larger spans, heavy loads, or situations demanding exceptional structural resilience, C24 timber is often the preferred choice for critical elements like roof trusses, beams, and other essential structural components.
