With finished dimensions of roughly 38mm x 63mm (34.2m in length), this 3x2 CLS Timber is slightly smaller than our 3x2 C16 Timber owing to its planed edges, and is  well-suited for stud walls, partitioning, and framing purposes.

  • For use in stud walls, framing and partitioning applications
  • Not suitable for use in direct ground contact.

What is 3x2 CLS Studwork Timber Size in mm?

The "3x2" label indicates the joist size in inches, equivalent to 47 x 75mm in metric measurements. However, CLS undergoes planing on all sides to achieve a smooth and consistent finish, resulting in a "finished" size slightly reduced, around 38mm x 63mm, ensuring uniformity across the material.

This slight difference is typical of CLS timber and proves especially advantageous for structural projects where applying plasterboard or similar materials to the structure is involved.

What is 3x2 CLS Timber Studwork Used For?

C16 timber studwork is extensively used in construction, especially for framing stud walls in both residential and commercial buildings. CLS Timber, known for its versatility and strength, is adept at forming the framework for internal walls, partitions and similar. CLS C16 Timber is commonly used in framing, offering support for plasterboard or other wall finishes. Renowned for their durability, these studs are a staple in various construction projects requiring a sturdy internal framework.

What Does Kiln Dried Mean?

Kiln-dried refers to a process where timber or wood undergoes drying in a kiln. The purpose is to reduce the moisture content within the timber. This controlled drying process helps eliminate excess moisture more quickly and uniformly than traditional air-drying methods, resulting in wood that is lighter, stronger, less prone to warping or cracking, and more stable for use in construction, woodworking, or furniture making.

What Lengths Do 3x2 CLS Timber Studwork Come in?

We provide 3x2 CLS timber in lengths of 2.4m, 3m, and 4.8m. While we aim to have all sizes available for delivery, there might be cases where we substitute a longer length if specific sizes encounter delays or are unavailable in your area.

What Does CLS Stand For?

CLS, which stands for "Canadian Lumber Standard”, was originally sourced from Canada. However, it is now procured from various countries, including the UK. It refers to a specific type of timber widely utilised in construction and framing.

Recognized for its smooth finish, uniform dimensions, and strength, CLS timber excels in applications like stud walls, framing, and diverse structural requirements within building and construction projects.

What Does C16 Stand For?

C16 timber is one of several grades of timber used in the UK. The "C" represents the wood type, typically coniferous, while the number indicates its bend strength grading, considering factors like knots and imperfections.

Commonly used in construction, C16 timber is most often used in  framing, partitioning and structural components. Valued for its strength, it's ideal for moderately demanding load-bearing tasks. Builders and contractors often prefer C16 timber for projects needing a sturdy yet cost-effective timber choice, especially in domestic construction for activities like wall framing, roofing, and overall structural reinforcement.

Do I Need Treated 3x2 Timber?

Our untreated 3x2 CLS Timber is best suited for internal applications unless properly treated. Opting for treated timber might be more appropriate if your project is susceptible to moisture or pest issues. Treated timber is better equipped for outdoor tasks such as decking, roofing, and similar projects.
