What is 6x2 Timber in mm?

“6x2" in inches corresponds to 47x150mm in metric measurements. However, the actual dimensions of our 6x2 Timber in mm are slightly different due to a regularisation process used on our structural timber. Regularisation involves machining the length to ensure consistent width and thickness across the entire length.

Consequently, the "finished" size may be slightly smaller, usually closer to 45mm x 145mm rather than 47x150mm. This slight difference is typically negligible in most projects and is a standard trait when using 6x2 regularised timber joists.

What are 6x2 Treated Timber Joists Used For?

The larger dimensions of 6x2 timber joists, coupled with their robust C24 strength grading, mean they are ideal for various applications such as roofing, flooring, house framing, and deck framing. Treated against moisture and pests, 6x2 Treated Timber Joists are suitable for both indoor and outdoor projects.

What is Regularised Timber?

Regularised timber undergoes mechanical finishing to achieve consistent and standardised dimensions along its entire length. This approach guarantees a smooth and even finish, resulting in a final size slightly smaller than the initially specified dimensions.

Regularised timber is commonly used to ensure consistency in structural components such as joists, studs, and framing materials. This uniformity streamlines assembly and ensures accurate fittings.

What Does Kiln Dried Mean?

Kiln-dried wood undergoes a specific process where it's placed within a kiln to decrease its moisture content to a precise level. Controlled heat and airflow within the kiln expedite and standardise the drying process, effectively minimising problems like warping, cracking, and fungal growth in the wood.

What Lengths Do 6x2 C24 Timber Joists Come in?

Our 6x2 Timber joists are available in 2.4m, 3m, 3.6m, 4.2m and 4.8m. We try to keep all of these lengths in stock wherever possible, but on occasions where stock levels or availability in your area is low, we may substitute for a longer length.

What Is C24 Timber?

C24 timber is one of several grades of timber prevalent in the UK, categorised by their bending strength. The "C" designates the wood type (coniferous), while the number indicates its bending strength rating, with C24 having a higher bend strength than C16.

Preferred for its exceptional strength and ability to bear heavy loads, C24 timber is ideal for rigorous structural uses. It finds common application in construction projects demanding stronger timber, especially in scenarios requiring larger spans, significant loads, or where superior structural resilience is vital. C24 timber is frequently selected for purposes such as roof trusses, beams, and other critical structural elements where elevated strength and durability are paramount.
