Description
Description
Sharp sand, also known as coarse or grit sand, is an essential building material valued for its angular grains and coarser texture. Unlike fine sand, these angular particles lock together under compaction to create a stable, load-bearing base — making it one of the most versatile aggregates used across construction and landscaping.
- Minimum packed weight: 800kg (±5%)
- Delivered in bulk bags — suitable for large project quantities
- Locally sourced aggregate
- Ideal for general building and landscaping projects
This locally sourced sharp sand is suitable for a wide range of applications:
- When combined with cement and coarse aggregates, it produces strong, durable concrete and floor screeds suitable for structural use. Always follow the correct cement-to-sand ratios for your specific mix, as these vary between screed, mortar, and concrete applications.
- Ideal as a bedding and leveling course beneath paving blocks, patio slabs, and flags, providing a stable, free-draining laying surface.
- Used as a sub-base layer to create an even, compacted foundation before laying.
- Provides a good key in traditional sand-and-cement scratch coats before the finishing coat is applied.
- Effective for soakaways, pipe bedding, and mixing with topsoil to improve drainage in gardens and lawns.
- Suitable for leveling and preparing ground ahead of laying turf or artificial grass, as well as for top dressing lawns.
Tips for Use
Always compact sharp sand thoroughly after laying. The angular grain structure locks together under pressure to form a reliable, stable base. For cement-based mixes, ensure you follow the correct ratios for your intended application.
