What is 3x2 Treated Timber in mm?

"3x2" relates to the joist's dimensions in inches, equivalent to 47 x 75mm. However, our 3x2 timber joists are regularised, which is done to maintain uniformity along their length, resulting in a "final" size slightly smaller, approximately 45mm x 70mm.

This slight variance in size usually doesn't have a significant impact on most projects and is a standard feature of 47x75mm (3x2) timber joists.

What are 3x2 C16 Treated Timber Joists Used For?

Commonly utilized in stud walling and partitioning, C16 timber has impressive strength, making it perfect for interior construction endeavors. Although not recommended for supporting a building's framework, its treatment expands its versatility, rendering it suitable for various outdoor applications like decking, fencing, sheds, pergolas, and a range of other outdoor structures.

What Does Kiln Dried Mean?

Kiln dried timber is timber that has undergone drying in a kiln as opposed to air-drying. It is often more suitable for construction purposes as the controlled environment within the kiln enables quicker and more consistent drying. This process reduces typical issues such as warping and cracking, often found in air-drying methods. The consistent moisture content significantly boosts the stability and strength of the wood.

What Lengths Does 3x2 C16 Timber Joist Come in?

We offer a range of 3x2 timber in various lengths: 2.4m, 3m, 3.6m and 4.8m. While we strive to keep all sizes in stock for swift delivery, occasional delays or shortages in certain lengths may occur. If this happens, we may substitute longer lengths to ensure your order arrives on time.

What Does C16 Stand For?

In the UK, timber is graded based on its strength and quality, with C16 and C24 being the most common. These grades indicate how well the timber can bear loads, particularly when subjected to bending stress.

C24 is mainly employed for structural purposes, offering superior load-bearing capacity, ideal for extensive spans or heavier loads. On the other hand, C16, while slightly less robust than C24, maintains its sturdiness and is widely used in wall and roofing projects with lower load demands. Both grades assure reliability, and the choice between them hinges on the specific structural requirements of the project.

Do I Need Treated 3x2 Timber Joists?

Our treated 3x2 Timber is suitable for both interior and exterior uses. In projects prone to moisture or pest concerns, opting for treated timber might be preferable. Its enhanced resistance to moisture and pests makes it particularly fitting for outdoor projects such as decking, roofing, and similar applications.
