4x2 CLS Timber C16 Studwork & Framing 38x89mm – 2.4m

The term "4x2," typically denoting the joist size in inches, equates to 47 x 100mm in metric measurements. However, CLS is planed on all sides to achieve an even and uniform finish, resulting in a "finished" size slightly smaller of approx 38mm x 89mm, to ensure consistency throughout.

This slight variance is typical in CLS timber and tends to lend itself specifically to structural projects where plasterboard etc will be applied to the structure. 

Kiln-dried refers to a process where timber or wood is placed inside a kiln to remove excess moisture from it. The controlled heat and airflow in the kiln facilitate faster and more uniform drying compared to air-drying methods. This process reduces the moisture content of the wood, making it lighter, stronger, less prone to warping or cracking, and more stable for various applications in construction, woodworking, or furniture making.

We offer 4x2 timber in both a 2.4m length and a 4.8m length. We strive to maintain stock across all sizes for delivery, but there are occasionally instances where we would look to substitute a longer length as an alternative if there's a delay or unavailability of specific sizes in your area.

CLS stands for "Canadian Lumber Standard" as CLS Studwork Timber was initially sourced from Canada. However, presently, it's sourced from various countries, including the UK. It refers to a specific type of timber commonly used in construction and framing.

C16 timber is a classification within the grading system used for timber in the UK. The "C" represents the type of wood, which in this case is typically coniferous, and the "16" denotes its bend strength grading - assessed by the presence (or lack of) knots, imperfections and more.

C16 timber is commonly used in construction for various purposes, including framing, joists, and other structural elements. It's characterised by its strength and suitability for moderate load-bearing applications. Builders and contractors often utilise C16 timber in projects where a robust yet reasonably priced timber option is required, such as in domestic construction for wall framing, roofing, and general structural support.

Opting for 4x2 treated timber is advisable for projects at risk of moisture or pest exposure. These timbers undergo pressure treatment, ensuring deep penetration of the treatment into the wood, providing durable protection against rot and pests.
