What is 2x2 Timber in mm?

Known as  2x2 timber, the dimensions of this timber in millimetres are actually 47 x 50mm. However, as our timber is “regularised” (meaning it is planed to create a smooth and even piece of timber the entire way down the length) in reality the measurements are closer to a 45 x 45mm measurements. For the large majority of projects, this 3mm tolerance is negligible.

What is 2x2 Treated Timber Used For?

2x2 Timber is a small and lightweight timber ideal for light structural projects such as partitioning and stud wall building in small sheds and garden buildings, or for building garden structures such as trellises and planters. Furthermore, it is often used in the home for projects such as furniture making and trim - particularly for built-in projects such as shelving. For structural projects required to hold significant weight, our structural timber may be more suitable.

What Does Kiln Dried Mean?

Kiln-dried refers to a process where timber or wood is placed inside a kiln to remove excess moisture from it. The controlled heat and airflow in the kiln facilitate faster and more uniform drying compared to air-drying methods. This process reduces the moisture content of the wood, making it lighter, stronger, less prone to warping or cracking, and more stable for various applications in construction, woodworking, or furniture making.

What Lengths Does 2x2 Timber Come in?
