What is 3x2 Timber in mm?

The term "3x2," indicates the joist size in inches and corresponds to 47 x 75mm in metric measurements. However, regularised timber is mechanically finished to achieve a smooth and uniform size across the length of timber, resulting in a "finished" size slightly smaller, approximately 45mm x 70mm.

The size difference is negligible and in the vast majority of projects will make no difference to your project, and is standard across 47x75, 3x2 regularised timber joists.

What are 3x2 C16 Treated Timber Joists Used For?

Often used for stud walling and partitioning, C16 treated timber’s exceptional strength makes it very suitable for interior construction applications, though it should not be used to support the building structure. However, due to its treatment, it is also suitable for decking, fencing, sheds, pergolas and many outdoor structures.

What Does Kiln Dried Mean?

Kiln-dried timber is a popular choice for various woodworking and construction projects due to its numerous advantages over air-dried wood. The controlled environment of a kiln allows for quicker and more uniform drying, which helps minimize warping, cracking, and other defects often associated with air-drying methods. This consistency in moisture content contributes to increased stability and strength in the wood, making it a preferred option for furniture making, construction, and other applications where quality and reliability are essential.

What Lengths Does 3x2 C16 Timber Joist Come in?

We offer 3x2 timber in lengths of 2.4m, 3m, 3.6m, 4.2m and 4.8m. We strive to maintain stock across all sizes for delivery, but occasionally there are instances of delay or unavailability of specific sizes, where we may substitute longer lengths in the interest of getting your order to you in a timely manner.

What is C16 timber?

In the UK, timber is often graded based on strength and quality, with C16 and C24 being two common classifications for coniferous wood, like pine or spruce. These grades indicate the timber's load-bearing capacity, especially under bending stress.

C16 and C24 are primarily used in construction for structural purposes. C24, being the stronger grade, is often chosen for applications requiring higher load-bearing capabilities, such as in larger spans or heavier loads. It's more resistant to bending and suitable for more demanding construction projects.

On the other hand, C16 timber, while slightly lower in strength compared to C24, is still robust and finds extensive use in various wall and roofing applications where the load requirements are less stringent. Both grades offer reliable performance, but the choice between them depends on the specific structural demands of the project and cost considerations.

Do I Need Treated 3x2 Timber Joists?

Our 3x2 Treated Timber is suitable for both internal and external uses. If your project might face moisture or pest challenges, opting for treated timber could be more suitable. Treated timber is better suited for outdoor projects such as decking, roofing, and similar applications due to its enhanced resistance to moisture and pests.
