For large projects, such as new builds or large renovations, our pallet of 50 rolls is ideal. A 2-in-1 Vapour Control Layer (VCL) and Radiant Barrier, the SuperFOIL SFTV 1L  is a Vapour Control Layer with a reflective finish one one side, that is designed to insulate heat from inside your property, as well as providing a barrier that reduces the transfer of moisture within the wall structure.

Typically used on the “warm” (interior) side in wall structures, roofs and flooring, it has one reflective side and one “dull” side, with the reflective face generally facing outwards.

  • Achieves an R Value of 0.95 in Roofs, 1.42 in Walls and 2.80 in Floors
  • Ideal for New Builds, Extensions and retrofits
  • Simple installation with basic tools and supplies
  • Functions as both a VCL and Radiant Barrier

What is a Vapour Control Layer (VCL)?

A vapour control layer (VCL), also known as a vapour barrier, is a material used in building construction to prevent the passage of water vapour through walls, ceilings, floors, or roofs. It is typically installed on the “warm” side of the insulation (typically the interior side) where it helps to control moisture levels within the building envelope. By blocking the movement of water vapour, a VCL helps to prevent condensation from occurring within the building structure, which can lead to issues such as mould growth, rot, and reduced insulation effectiveness.

What is a Radiant Barrier?

A radiant barrier is a type of material designed to reduce radiant heat transfer. Radiant barriers work by reflecting radiant heat away from the surface they cover, which helps to keep spaces cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. They are often installed in attics, under roofs, or in walls where they can block the transfer of radiant heat from the sun or from indoor heating systems. By minimising radiant heat transfer, radiant barriers can help improve energy efficiency and increase comfort levels within buildings.

How to install SuperFOIL SFTV 1L?

A vapour control layer should be applied on the interior side of any wall, roof or flooring, over timber studs before the internal lining. It should be 100% sealed to the structure with double-sided butyl tapes, pre-applied to all areas where a fixing is to be made, and finished with metallised tapes to ensure a complete vapour seal.

What is SuperFOIL Insulation?

SuperFOIL insulation covers a range of multi-foil insulation, a form of insulation roll typically used as roof insulation, solid wall insulation, floor insulation and even external wall insulation projects. Made with layers of insulation quilt sandwiched between reflective foil sheets, it creates a slim but effective insulating layer that is easily moved, cut and installed with standard tools. As well as insulating, it functions as a radiant barrier, reflecting excess heat away during hot weather, and reflecting heat back into the building in cold.

Where to use Multifoil Insulation

SuperFOIL Wall Insulation

Due to it’s flexibility and slim profile, SUPERfoil insulation has a wide range of uses. It is particularly useful in scenarios where traditional insulation would need to be much thicker, in a way that may compromise the floorspace such as in conversions of solid wall spaces like garages, outhouses and barns, and even van conversions! In these scenarios, it is typically applied horizontally across batten fastened to the wall, and fixed with a nail or staplegun - making it an extremely DIY-friendly product.

Additionally some SuperFOIL products such as SF19BB and SF60BB, are often used in timber frame and solid external wall insulation, and function as an insulating breather membrane.

SuperFOIL Insulation for Roofing

SuperFOIL is also commonly used in roofing insulation, where it can be retrofitted horizontally across the rafters, secured with heavy duty staples and insulation tape  - for additional insulation, ideally in conjunction with other insulation methods.

SuperFOIL Floor Insulation

Finally, many SuperFOIL products are suitable for use as floor insulation, including solid flooring. A variety of sizes means thicker insulation rolls can be installed across joists, and slimmer varieties such as SFUF can be installed with no air gap in solid floors, where space is often at a premium.
