What is Floor Insulation?

Floor insulation involves installing materials beneath the flooring of a building to reduce heat loss and improve energy efficiency. This insulation typically consists of materials such as EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) Insulation Board, PIR Insulation Boards such as Celotex, Mineral wool batts, or multifoil rolls like Superfoil insulation - which are placed between the floor joists or beneath the floorboards. Floor insulation helps to create a thermal barrier, preventing heat from escaping through the floor and keeping the interior of the building warmer in colder months. It also contributes to soundproofing and can help to reduce energy bills by decreasing the need for heating.

What is PIR Insulation Board?

Polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation board is a type of rigid foam insulation board backed with a foil layer, that is renowned for its exceptional thermal performance. It is a strong and light type of foam that keeps structures warm by trapping air inside, and is usually known by brand names such as Celotex or Recticel. PIR insulation is lightweight, durable, and offers excellent fire resistance and thermal insulating properties, making it a super DIY-friendly solution that can easily be cut to size and is suitable for a variety of projects. In flooring, Celotex insulation board can be used in both concrete floor insulation and suspended timber floor insulation projects.

What is Jablite Floor Insulation?

Jablite is a manufacturer of EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) insulation board, which is a lightweight, rigid board insulation material made from expanded polystyrene beads that can be easily cut to size and installed in various building applications, including walls, roofs, and floors - with Jabfloor being purpose made for flooring insulation. EPS insulation is manufactured by expanding polystyrene beads with steam and then moulding them into insulation boards. These boards help to reduce heat transfer and maintain consistent indoor temperatures. It is also moisture-resistant, durable, and resistant to mould and mildew growth, making it a popular choice for both residential and commercial insulation projects. In flooring, EPS insulation board is most commonly used in concrete flooring, placed on top of the initial concrete slab layer, below the final concrete screed.

What is Multi Foil Insulation?

Multi-foil insulation such as Superfoil insulation is a type of thermal insulation material composed of several layers of reflective foil, often with additional materials such as foam or bubble wrap sandwiched in between. The reflective foil layers work by reflecting radiant heat, preventing it from entering or escaping a building, thus helping to maintain desired temperatures and improve energy efficiency. This type of multifoil insulation is popular for its lightweight and flexible nature, making it easy to install in various construction applications, such as roofs, walls, and floors. In flooring, it is typically applied as flooring insulation below floorboards by rolling across and over the flooring joists, with any joins sealed with butyl tape.
