For a striking contrast, this Ronseal water repellent and UV resistant fencing stain is tinted to a dark “oak” colour. This trade quality stain prolongs colour resistance with an increased wax content, and is especially suitable for rough-sawn timber such as fence panels and overlap sheds.

Please note that colour may differ in person from how it appears on your screen due to variance in monitor settings and quality. It is always advisable to test colour on a hidden, sand-able or less noticeable area.

What are Feather Edge Boards?

Feather edge fencing boards, also known as featherboard or closeboard fencing, are a type of wooden fencing typically used for privacy and security purposes. These boards are characterised by their tapered design, with one edge thicker than the other. The design allows the boards to be overlapped, creating a solid and sturdy fence that offers privacy by minimising gaps between the boards.

Feather Edge boards typically rough-sawn finish, which adds to their affordability and gives them a classic look.

How to Install Feather Edge Fencing Boards?

Feather edge fencing or close board fencing is commonly constructed by attaching the boards vertically, with slight overlap, to horizontal support rails and secured with nails or screws - these are secured to fence posts which are commonly cemented into the ground.

Can Feather Edge fencing boards be painted or stained?

Yes - although our feather edge boards are pressure treated against pest and rot, some people prefer to further treat or stain their feather edge boards for further resistance to moisture and pests or for aesthetic reasons. Because feather edge boards are made from rough-sawn timber, it is advisable to use a specific fencing stain specifically designed for rough-sawn timber.

How Much Should I Overlap Feather Edge Boards?

The recommended spacing and overlap for feather edge boards typically depends on the specific design and requirements of the fencing project, but an overlap between 25mm to 50mm is common to ensure adequate coverage to minimise gaps and provide a cohesive appearance while still allowing for some flexibility to accommodate natural variations in the boards.
