A general use plasterboard is used where no specific properties are required, and is generally a more cost-effective choice for non-problem areas of the structure. British Gypsum Soundbloc is an acoustic plasterboard typically applied in bedrooms, bathrooms and party walls where reduction of sound transfer is of a concern.  Sound proof plasterboard tends to be heavier and denser than general use plasterboard, which give it added high acoustic performance.

Fire rated plasterboard is a type of plasterboard designed to offer enhanced protection against fire. It contains special additives such as glass fibres to improve its fire resistance, and is typically used in areas where increased fire safety is required, such as in kitchens, corridors, and partition walls. Fireline fire resistant plasterboard is rated Euroclass A2-s1,d0 reaction to fire. 

Ideal for rooms with high humidity such as bathrooms and kitchens, moisture resistant plasterboard is designed specifically to resist moisture and humidity. Gyproc Moisture resistant plasterboard has a water vapour resistance factor (μ) of of 10.
