This 4x2 CLS Timber features a finished size of approximately 38mm x 89mm, slightly smaller in profile compared to our 4x2 C24 Timber as it's finished on all sides. At a 4.8m length, it is well-suited for stud walls, partitioning, and framing purposes.

  • For use in stud walls, framing and partitioning applications
  • Sustainably Sourced Timber
  • Regularised on all sides for uniform size, with eased corners
  • Kiln Dried for additional strength and durability
  • Conforms to BS 4978 and EN 14081:2006
  • Not suitable for use in direct ground contact.

What is 4x2 CLS Studwork Timber in mm?

The term "4x2," indicates the joist size in inches and corresponds to 47 x 100mm in metric measurements. However, CLS timber is planed on all sides to achieve a smooth and uniform finish, resulting in a "finished" size slightly smaller, approximately 38mm x 89mm.

This minor difference is typical in CLS timber and is particularly suitable for structural projects where materials like plasterboard will be applied to the structure.

What is 4x2 CLS Timber Studwork Used For?

Typically, C16 CLS Studwork Timber is used for timber frame home construction, such as stud walling, carcassing and interior framing and partitioning. It is a C16 timber which makes it exceptionally strong, and suitable for interior construction applications.

What Does Kiln Dried Mean?

Kiln-dried timber goes through a drying process involving a consistent heat application in kilns, efficiently removing excess moisture from freshly cut boards. This method reduces weight, enhances strength and straightness, and improves workability. In contrast to the prolonged duration of air-drying, kiln drying provides a faster and more reliable approach.

What Lengths Do 4x2 CLS Timber Studwork Come in?

We offer 4x2 timber in both a 2.4m length and a 4.8m length. We strive to maintain stock across all sizes for delivery, but there are occasionally instances where we would look to substitute a longer length as an alternative if there's a delay or unavailability of specific sizes in your area.

What Does CLS Stand For?

CLS stands for “Canadian Lumber Standard” as it was originally sourced in Canada. Nowadays it is grown and sourced from various countries including grown here in the UK< but CLS is still used as a common name to identify the product.

What Does C16 Stand For?

In the UK, regularised timber is commonly categorised into two grades: C16 or C24. The "C" denotes the wood type, specifically Conifer. The numerical value reflects the bending strength, considering factors like imperfections and knots. Whilst C24 stands as the stronger grade, C16 is still exceptionally strong and used in many wall and roofing applications.

Do I Need Treated 4x2 Timber?

Our 4x2 CLS Timber is untreated as it is typically used in internal applications. If your project is likely to be prone to moisture or pest issues, treated timber may be a better alternative, which is better suited for outdoor projects like decking, roofing, and similar projects.
