What's 8x2 Timber in mm?
8x2 timber in mm is roughly 47x200mm in metric measurements. However, the actual size of 8x2 Timber in millimetres is actually slightly smaller due to the regularisation process that our structural timber undergoes. Regularisation involves machining the length of timber to achieve smooth and consistent dimensions throughout the length of timber.
As a result, the "finished" size might be a few millimetres smaller than 47x200mm, typically closer to 45mm x 195mm. This minor variance is generally insignificant in the majority of projects and is a standard characteristic of using 8x2 regularised timber joists.
What are 8x2 Treated Timber Joists Used For?
8x2 C24 Timber is a versatile product and is commonly used in structural framing projects and as joists due to its significant strength, but it is also ideal for projects such as decking frames, or for building heavy-duty storage shelving for the same reason.
What is Regularised Timber?
Regularised timber refers to timber that has been machined to achieve consistent and standardised dimensions. This typically means that the “finished” size is a few millimetres smaller than the stated size. Regularised timber is commonly used in construction because its standardised size makes it easier to work with and ensures consistency in building projects. It's often used for structural components like joists, studs, and rafters, where precise dimensions and a smooth finish are essential for stability and ease of assembly.
What Does Kiln Dried Mean?
Kiln-dried timber is wood that has undergone a controlled drying process in a kiln to reduce the moisture content. This method enhances the wood's stability, strength, and durability by lowering moisture levels, minimising the risk of warping or cracking, making it ideal for construction. Additionally, the drying process helps deter mold growth and makes the wood less appealing to pests, ensuring its quality and longevity in different applications.
What Lengths Do 8x2 C24 Treated Timber Joists Come in?
Our 8x2 Timber joists are available in 3.6m, 4.8m and 5.6m. We try to keep all of these lengths in stock wherever possible, but on occasions where stock levels or availability in your area is low, we may substitute for a longer length.
What Is C24 Timber?
C24 timber is one of several grades commonly used in the UK. Distinguished by its greater strength compared to C16 timber, the "C" denotes the wood type (coniferous), while the numeral indicates its bend strength rating.
Renowned for its exceptional strength and capacity to bear heavy loads, C24 timber is often used in structural roles, requiring timber of superior strength - especially in scenarios involving larger spans, heavy loads, or where bolstered structural resilience is crucial.
